Flare is an Android voice-to-Markdown app built by Flowforest. It transcribes English speech live and entirely on-device with Moonshine Small Streaming. The model is bundled, so the app works offline with no account, download at runtime or internet permission.
A note that fits your existing system
Choose an optional tag, record, pause or resume, then save or discard. Flare writes plain Markdown with tags and configurable YAML front matter. Notes live in app storage and can be mirrored to a chosen folder through Android’s folder picker, ready for an Obsidian vault or another sync tool. Flare itself does not provide sync or import edits from elsewhere.
Capture without creating another data trail
Audio stays in memory for transcription and is not saved as a recording. Flare has no account, ads, analytics or crash-reporting service. Saved notes can be read, shared and deleted in the app; deleting an app note does not delete an exported copy. The build uses Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, coroutines, Flow, Hilt and Android’s Storage Access Framework.
